Section A

1. Oliver Twist is about a boy who goes out to sea and finds an island full of treasures. (P58)

(1) island 用作可数名词，意为 “岛，岛屿”。该词读音以元音音素开头，所以不定冠词用an。

(2) full of 形容词短语，意为“满是……的；有大量的……”，在句中作后置定语。

be full of 意为“充满/装满……”。

(3) treasure意为 “物品；珍宝；珍品”时，通常用作可数名词；意为 “金银财宝；珠宝；财富”

时，通常用作不可数名词。

2. Robinson Crusoe is a classic. (P58)

classic 此处用作可数名词，意为 “经典作品；名著”。

classic还可用作形容词，意为 “古典的；典型的”。

3. It was really good, so I couldn't put it down. (P58)

put down 动副短语 “放下”。

“写下，记下”。= write/take down

4. You should hurry up. The book report is due in two weeks. (P58)

(1) Hurry up！意为 “赶快！急忙(做某事)”，相当于Come on！或Be quick！ hurry不及物

动词，意为 “匆忙；赶快”

hurry to + 地点名词，意为 “匆忙去某地”。

hurry to do sth. 意为“匆忙做某事”。

in a hurry 意为“匆匆忙忙”、“匆忙地”。

(2) due此处用作形容词，意为 “预期；预定；预计”，通常用作表语，后边引出预期的时间、

地点等。

be due to do sth. 意为 “预定做某事”。

5. A few weeks ago, I found the marks of another man's feet on the sand. (P59)

(1) mark 可数名词，“迹象；记号；分数”。

及物动词，“做记号；打分”。

(2) on the sand，意为“在沙滩上”。

6. Who else is on my island? (P59)

else意为“其他的；别的”，常用于疑问词和不定代词之后。

eg：Can I do anything else for you？

我还能为你做点别的事吗？

【注意】somebody else，anybody else的所有格形式分别是somebody else's，anybody
