Specialized descender (CRITR) designed for canyoning

Because canyoning occurs in a unique environment, we have to use specific and often specialized equipment in order to progress safely and efficiently through a canyon.Different types of canyons, different weather conditions, climate and time of the year will require different pieces of equipment to be included in our personal equipment kit. Before describing and listing those pieces of equipment, it is necessary to explain an important distinction between all the different equipment we will need to have with us. This distinction has to do with safety and non-safety equipment.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Harness, carabiners, lanyards, and descenders are all examples of PPE

Safety equipment, also known as Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), is meant to protect us from injuries and bodily harm in general.

Some examples of PPE are: a helmet, a canyoning harness, carabiners and connectors, ropes and slings.

IMPORTANT: All Personal Protective Equipment should follow international or other recognized standards.
