Lesson 21 Mad or not
一、原文
Aeroplanes are slowly driving me mad.
I live near an airport and passing planes can be heard night and day. The
airport was built years ago, but for some reason it could not be used then. Last
year, however, it came into use.
Over a hundred people must have been driven away from their homes by the
noise. I am one of the few people left. Sometimes I think this house will be
knocked down by a passing plane.
I have been offered a large sum of money to go away, but I am determined to
stay here. Everybody says I must be mad and they are probably right.

我住在一个机场附近，过往飞机日夜不绝于耳。机场是许多年前建的 ，但由于某种原

(1)VEHICLE 交通工具
to operate a vehicle so that it goes in a particular direction 驾驶；开车
I drove to work this morning. 我今天早上开车去上的班。
to take sb somewhere in a car, taxi, etc. 驾车送（人）

to own or use a particular type of vehicle 拥有（或驾驶）…汽车

(2)MAKE SB DO STH 使人做某事
to force sb to act in a particular way 迫使；驱使
The urge to survive drove them on. 求生的欲望驱使他们继续下去。
to make sb very angry, crazy, etc. or to make them do sth extreme 迫使（某
人生气、发疯或做出极端事情）
to drive sb crazy/mad/insane 把人逼得发疯╱发狂╱失去理智

(3) MAKE SB/STH MOVE 使移动
to force sb/sth to move in a particular direction 驱赶；赶走；驱逐
to drive sheep into a field 把羊群赶到田野里
The enemy was driven back. 敌人被击退了。
(4) 俚语
drive sth ˈhome (to sb)
to make sb understand or accept sth by saying it often, loudly, angrily,
etc. 把…讲透彻；阐明；使充分理解
You will really need to drive your point home. 你的确需要把你的观点阐释清楚。

例句：over a hundred people must have been driven away from their homes by
the noise.

一般现在时：Your match is repaired by Bill
一般将来时：Your match will be repaired by Bill
一般过去式：Your match was repaired by Bill
现在完成时：Your match has been repaired by Bill
