With the destruction of such a large number of bridges in European countries during the last war it was to be expected that considerable attention would be paid to the merits of prestressed concrete for this type of structure when proposals for the replacement of many of them were put in hand. Such has indeed been the case, and three examples, two of them Belgian and one American, will be described to indicate how admirably suited is this material to the construction of medium- and long-span bridges.
